Living In Conflict is a project about life in Israel and what impact this has on people who live under a daily threat of hostilities. In March 2007, artist Martyn Stanton Harris traveled to Israel because as he says, "I saw this in contrast to the safe environment that I live in the UK and is the case for most of us who live in the West, our experience of conflict is what we are shown on the TV screen. I didn't want my understanding confined to this media perspective but wanted to understand what this means on a human level."
For over a year after his return, the film footage Martyn had taken began to take shape in the form of video sequences that give voice to people in this landscape of conflict. Also a series of paintings and digital artwork began to develop with symbolic and iconic content expressing the human condition. In 2008, Martyn showcased his work at the Herzliya Artist Residency in Israel.
Martyn feels this work will help the viewer to engage with the experience of living in conflict from an artistic perspective, as well as broaden understanding of a challenging and controversial subject, and is an open opportunity for public debate. Living Imprint will present Martyn's work in an exhibition in the UK. If you'd like to be informed of this future event, please register for updates.
